Educational Philosophy

Guided by thoughtful mentors, teachers and peers, boarding school students make daily choices that, with reflection, will shape their identities, values, interests, passions and their individual courses of study. Teachers foster connections—intellectual and human—and promote the spirit of inquiry, inspiring students to grapple with ambiguity, establishing environments in which students learn from each other, and creating experiences in which students are doing, rather than learning about, the work of each field.

Perspectives on Curriculum

Yungu teachers will co-create a curriculum that connects and continually adapts to the world around them. In the meantime, students will be engaged in rigorous tasks—inquiry, seminar discussion, collaborative projects, research, writing and presentation—to develop the skills, agency and character to become innovators and critical thinkers who serve the world.
